Advantages of pulverisation
Pulverisation is an alternative method of cullet processing. This involves reducing the grain size to > 0,8 mm in a horizontal crusher. Many contaminants are elastic enough to retain their original size during the pulverisation process and can therefore be easily sieved out. Ceramic contaminants have similar characteristics to glass and are therefore also reduced to very small grains. These melt out easily during the normal residence time in the furnace and therefore do not result in glass faults.
