CHALLENGE
Gerresheimer Lohr GmbH in Germany develops and produces packaging glass for the consumer health, pharmaceutical and chemical industries as well as packaging solutions for the food and beverage industry under strict hygiene and cleanroom conditions.
The capacity of Furnace Two at Gerresheimer Lohr, which produces amber glass, was increased. Consequently, the existing batch plant was unable to supply enough batch to meet the new demands of the furnace.
EME APPROACH
To solve the problem and reduce the cycle time of the batch plant, EME made modifications and upgrades to equipment including the:
- Sand charging and weighing system
- Cullet charging system
- Soda dosing system
- Mixer system
- Cullet dosing unit
- Batch transport system
RESULTS
This turnkey project was challenging, because of a tight schedule and limited space in the batch plant, but the SORG Group and EME were thrilled with the result. More importantly, the client was delighted too, leading to two further orders for EME, for work on Furnace One at Gerresheimer Lohr, which produces flint glass.
