CHALLENGE
Gerresheimer Lohr GmbH in Germany develops and produces packaging glass for the consumer health, pharmaceutical and chemical industries as well as packaging solutions for the food and beverage industry under strict hygiene and cleanroom conditions.
At Gerresheimer, the capacity of furnace 1, which is used to produce flint glass, needed to be increased. EME was awarded the contract to make the necessary changes to the batch plant and batch transport system.
EME APPROACH
This order was split into 2 project blocks.
With project one, we installed a new mixer, a new scale system for internal and external cullet addition and upgraded the cullet transport system. We also upgraded the batch transport system to the furnace and updated the electrical control system with SCADA technology.
The second project package included the modernization of the cullet return system and a new concept including redundancy between the two cullet return systems. In addition, 4 new single fork link chain scrapers with gob chutes and 3 new crusher systems, which were specially adapted to Gerresheimer’s requirements, were installed.
RESULTS
Although the projects were time-critical and space for implementation was limited, we were able to meet our client’s expectations to their complete satisfaction.
