Case Study

Consol Glass chooses the SORG Group

Customer: Consol Glass
Location: South Africa
CHALLENGE

Founded in 1946, Consol (PTY.) LTD operates four glass production facilities and serves international, regional and domestic customers mainly in the beer, wine, spirits, food and non-alcoholic beverage sectors. They require a second furnace build, mainly for flint soda-lime glass, at the newly established Nigel plant near Johannesburg in South Africa. Batch and cullet transport is also required, extending from the existing batch house to the new furnace, along with installation support.

EME APPROACH

The SORG Group will deliver a full turnkey solution for Consol Glass, combining its services to offer one seamless solution. Nikolaus SORG will engineer and commission the second furnace build, which will be gas-heated and highly boosted with a 150m² regenerative endport furnace. In addition, Nikolaus SORG will incorporate a SORG® STW working end and four SORG® 340S+® forehearths. EME will extend the batch and cullet transport from the existing EME batch house to the new furnace with a closed-loop cullet return system, whilst also migrating the SCADA and software to the latest versions. SKS will execute the steel and refractory installation.

RESULTS

The SORG Group’s strong history and partnership with Consol Glass places us in the perfect position to collaborate on this project. The second furnace will optimise efficiency and performance of production. By harnessing the Power of 3, SORG, EME and SKS are able to offer one solution for hot end processes, from batch and cullet handling to melting technologies and furnace design, to furnace construction and complete lifecycle services.
